Friendships

This month we have been talking about relationships and friendships. To even learn how to be the kind of friend we need to be with each other, we must look at the best example ever, Jesus. The Bible says in John 15:13-15, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you"

Although Jesus is the Son of God, he wouldn't look at his friends as servants, but as friends and would teach them the things of God. That really can preach. We are not just supposed to hang out and kill time with your friends, but you should be teaching them and sharing the things of God with each other. In Proverbs 27:17 it says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another". We need to sharpen each other up in the things of God and not tare each other down.

I challenge you when you are hanging out with your true friends; the ones that would look out for you and stand up for you; encourage each other in the Word. Talk about the great things God is doing in your life. Hey, even stand in agreement and pray with each other. Not only will that grow you friendship closer, but it will give you the courage to do that with a random stranger that might need to hear a friendly or kind word.

Remember that best friend you can ever have is Jesus. Model yourself in His image and be the kind of friend that Jesus would want you to be.
